The Reach Out and Touch Prison Ministry

The primary mission of ROTPM is to lead inmates to Christ and teach them to become Disciples of Christ.
The Reach Out and Touch Prison Ministry (ROPTM) is under the auspices of the LWB Ministries Inc., Rev Lula Ward-Brewer, Founder.
ROTPM was established by God on July 16, 1995 and is an Outreach Ministry that participates in the NYC Dept of Correction (DOC) Volunteer Services at Rikers Island.
ROTPM conducts Bibles Study Services at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center (OBCC) on the third Sunday of every month from 10:00am to 11:00am and at the George Motchan Detention Center on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at 7:00pm to 8:30pm
In addition to Bible Study Services, ROTPM provides Bibles, Christian literature, Bible Study Lessons (on a correspondence basis), one on one mentoring and other Spiritual outreach in compliance with the DOC rules and guidelines
The primary mission of ROTPM is to lead inmates to Christ and teach them to become Disciples of Christ.

In July 1995, the Reach Out and Touch Prison Ministry (ROTPM) was established at Rikers Island at the OBCC facility. What began as a one-time invitation to teach Bible Study developed into an ongoing ministry. God opened the door to go in to preach, teach and exhort men to come out of darkness into the marvelous light of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Six months after the initial invitation, I was joined by Valerie Moore to assist me with bringing the gifts that were purchased for 40 men. Valerie continued to assist me for over 7 years until she relocated to South Carolina. God began to raise up others to join in the ministry, while at the same time using ROTPM to launch members of the team into their divine destiny. Former members of the team who served for a number of years have gone on to become an Apostle, Evangelist, Minister, Deacons etc., were: Fidel Donaldson, Stuart Barrett, Carmen Brown, and Magdeline John and Nelson Ramirez.

ROTPM is currently comprised of the following team: Lula Ward-Brewer, Norman Brewer, Michael Luciano, Carmen Brown and Carol Gulston. We are currently ministering at two facilities on Rikers Island: OBCC on the 3rd Sundays and GMDC on the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays of the month.

By the grace of God, this Ministry endeavors to “reach out” behind prison walls to help to rehabilitate the lives of Men who have lost their way and to teach them biblical principals that will transform their lives. Some of the things we have accomplished in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Corrections are:

• Teaching the Word of God and seeing countless men give their lives to Jesus Christ

• Counseling

• Follow-up via Correspondence

• Minister to Inmates at various Facilities

• Christmas Party for Inmates Children

• Prayer for Inmates and their Families

• Provide Gifts (Father’s Day and Christmas)

• Develop a Bible Study/Correspondence Program

• Referrals of Program(s ) for Jobs, Housing, Churches

A major component of the Ministry is our Bible Study Correspondence Program. About two years ago, Michael suggested that we give the men stamped envelopes to write to us in order to follow up with them. God laid it on my heart to compose and include Bible Study Lessons along with the envelopes. To date 22 Bible Study Lessons have been written. Over 370 men and women throughout the NYC Correction Facilities, NY State Prisons (both men and women) a Federal Prison, Forensic Prisons, as well as male and female prisons in Texas, have enrolled in our program. The Program is currently comprised of Series I and II Bible Study Lessons 1-12. Upon completing the first 6 lessons, we issue a Certificate of Achievement. Upon completing 12 Lessons, we issue a Certificate of Completion, a Bible Dictionary And Concordance and their 12 completed lessons bound in a booklet format.

Testimonies bear witness that lives are being changed, families reunited, marriages restored, and that Inmates are striving to develop a new lifestyle.
